DO YOU HAVE A HEARTS DESIRE FOR THE LOST?
By Pastor Greg Hooker
The Apostle Paul wrote “Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved.” Having experienced the miraculous transforming power of God in his life, Paul was eager to share the risen Savior with others. He wanted them to know the all consuming love of Jesus. His heart was for his brethren to embrace the power of the atoning death and resurrection of the Son of God. He desired for them to exchange their sins for the righteousness of Christ.
Yet Paul realized many of his friends were still “religious” and believed and had a “zeal” for God, but lacked a saving knowledge of who Jesus really was, the living Christ, Gods Son incarnate for whom they had rejected and crucified. The Messiah was before their very eyes yet they did not see. They did not accept. Satan had blinded their eyes to the truth just as he is blinding people today.
Consequently, many of Paul’s friends and loved ones still clinged to the Old Testament covenant of sacrificial offerings and completely were blinded to the ultimate Lamb slain on the altar of the cross. They just didn’t, or simply refused to understand that Jesus was the fulfillment of all the Old Testament prophesies. As Jesus Himself said, “I came not to condemn the world, but that the world through me might be saved.”
In like manner my friends, there are countless individuals today whose eyes are blinded to the Gospel. They believe there is a God, but have never embraced His Son as Savior through faith. They have no personal relationship with Christ, thus blindly walking a path to utter destruction. As Paul’s letter to the Ephesians 2:8-9 says, “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.”
Like Paul our hearts desire should be that unbelievers would be saved. So many are relying on their “good works” and “deeds”, but sadly they are impervious to the truth. Man is saved solely by placing child-like faith in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Plus nothing, minus nothing. Its Gods Gift to fallen humanity for “whosoever will” that calls upon His name.
Just like Paul, that’s our mission! It’s our orders to share the Gospel and keep on sharing until the Holy Spirit grips and convicts the sinners hearts. At which point they must make a decision - accept Gods Gift, or reject it to their damnation. “For there is no other name given among men whereby they can be saved.”
I hope and pray you are saved through a personal relationship with Jesus. If not, would you allow me the awesome privilege to share Him with you? Just CLICK HERE for more info on how to receive Jesus Christ as your personal Savior.
