KNOWLEDGE OF GOD
By Pastor RalphM. Wells
Good morning from Lapu-Lapu City; where I am reflecting on knowledge of God.
Let me introduce my topic with one of my favorite bumper sticker quotes ~
“Know God, know peace;
No God, no peace!”
A very POWERFUL truth!
However, often believers suffer from the same malady the Pharisees did; that is they did not know scripture and therefore do NOT understand the power of God, “Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.” (Matthew 22:29)
The problem this creates is that on tends to evaluate the power of an infinite God with the understanding of a finite “pea brain.”
Just as “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, says the Lord.” (Isaiah 55:8) neither is His power understandable outside of scripture an experience; and without understanding the God of scripture one will not move on to “experimenting” based on that knowledge.
Oh yes, I understand that the Holy Spirit can bring supernatural insight without scripture, but that is not the norm.
Understanding the awesome power of God is NOT something that happens overnight; consider the angels worshipping before the throne of God; they have been doing that since before earth was created and yet it appears that every time the rise up sing “Holy, holy, holy” they see an aspect of God they have never seen before and immediately bow down again.
And yet God’s creation gives us glimpses of God’s might power, as we sing in that great old hymn.
“Oh Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder
Consider all the works Thy hands have made
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder
Thy power throughout the universe displayed
Refrain
Then sings my soul my Savior, God, to Thee
How great thou art, how great thou art
Then sings my soul my Savior, God, to Thee
How great Thou art, How great Thou art
When Christ shall come with shouts of adulation
And take me home what joy shall fill my heart
Then I shall bow in humble adoration
And there proclaim my God how great Thou art
Refrain.”
So meditate on scripture; reflect on God’s creation; and let the power of God fill and thrill you. Baruch HaShem Adonai
