PEACE OR DIVISION
By Greg Hooker
Jesus made an interesting statement Luke’s Gospel:
“Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division:” (Luke 12:51).
The people of Jesus’ day were looking for a Messiah to rid them of persecution from the Romans. They were all excited because they figured Jesus to be the one to usher in peace on earth. But low and behold Jesus throws a “wrench” into their thinking.
Although Jesus is indeed the Prince of Peace, He did not come to bring peace to the world at that time. He rather came to divide - those who would believe and those who wouldn’t. Thus He was overtaken by the unbelieving mob, tried for crimes He didn’t commit, convicted, and nailed to a cross between two thieves.
One thief believed Him as the Savior the other did not. One went with Jesus to paradise, the other to Hell. Jesus was in the middle dividing the saved from the lost.
So it is today, Jesus still separates the saved from the lost, His sheep from the wolves. He is not here to bring peace, but to demonstrate His power and show the Devil He’s still in control. One day Christ will set upon His throne ruling in righteous judgement, but that is in the future.
Right now Jesus is patiently waiting for the right time to demonstrate to the world and the Devil His ultimate power and authority. That day is approaching. God will not allow sin and iniquity to continue unabated much longer. As it was in the days of Noah when all the earth sneered and jeered as Noah and his family built the ark until the rain began and the fountains of the deep spilt forth the waters of judgement. The ark lifted from the earth leaving all unbelievers behind wailing and screaming to drown in unbelief.
As it was in Noah’s day, so it share be when the Son of man returns. People will be laughing, dancing, drinking, and practicing sin. They will mock the Church of God and sneer at the Holy Scriptures. They shall call out ‘we are our own gods! Leave us be or join us. Eat, drink, and be merry.’
Friends we are swiftly nearing the day of Gods wrath once more. The darkness of the wicked are covering our land. Satan’s armies are amassing. Hate and violence is spreading like wild fire. Our cities are burning and our streets are filled with looters. Lawlessness abounds. Mob rules. Law enforcement is restrained. Lives are being killed and property is destroyed by the dark side of evil. Government is corrupt and ran by those who are possessed with the Devil. They are power hungry and could care less for their constituents.
Where will it end? What is the solution to this chaos? How do we go about out daily lives when it seems all the earth is amassing against God’s anointed?
First and foremost we trust in the Lord. He keeps close eyes on His children and will never forsake or leave us. God’s Spirit lives and seals the hearts of all who have received Jesus Christ as Savior until the redemption of the body. He is the Lord of our lives, our Protector, and Big Brother. We have nothing to fear when we hug closely to the hem of His garment. I leave you with this verses of Scripture:
“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths” (Proverbs 3:5-6).
“What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee.” (Psalm 56:3).
“When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee” (Isaiah 43:2).
“He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust” (Psalm 92:1-2).
“In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God” (Psalm 6:7)
“So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me” (Hebrews 13:6).
“Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord” (Psalm 27:14).
“Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee” (Isaiah 26:4).
God bless you my friends. “Keep on Praying, Praising, and Proclaiming the truth of God’s Word!”
