THE CHRISTIAN AND POLITICS
By Greg Hooker
What I’m about to say may not be agreed upon by everyone, and that’s okay I love you anyway, but what I’m about to say comes from much study, common sense, and the deep rooted convictions of my heart in the Word of God. A few people asked me how I feel about this subject. Is it biblical for a Christian, or Christian leader to involve themselves in the governmental process of ones country of whom they are a citizen.
First, let’s understand that the government was formed and instituted by man and certainly not flawless. When the constitution and all its laws were being drafted, it was largely based on the Holy Scriptures as a template. Personally, I believe our constitution was overseen by God Himself and is a holy document for the birth and establishment of a nation called to inseminate the Gospel Message to peoples around the world. God’s hands were all over the founding of our country in my opinion.
One only has to research the historical records of the great missionaries, preachers and evangelists that were born in America and who carried the message of Jesus Christ at home and abroad. Millions of souls were born again because of chosen men and women of the USA, and is still occurring today.
Although our founders differed in their beliefs and interpretations at times of the Holy Bible just as we do today, the preliminary foundation of our government was established upon the Bible and the laws and truths contained therein. God has blessed our nation far above other nations because of this.
Now having briefly looked at the founding of our country by our founders who believed and used the Bible to create the greatest country ever, let’s now explore the role of present-day Christians in politics. These are my convictions and may not be the same as yours - I’m sure I will find out, but as I said, I love you anyway.
Some well meaning individuals vehemently state that the Church should never involve itself in the affairs of the government. Where this ideology or theology comes from I’m not quite sure. Maybe it was passed down through generations, or it stems from ignorance of the Bible itself. How can any nation, state, county, or city, survive without the establishment of laws with elected people to see they are enforced and upheld?
Let’s ask ourselves this question: ‘If our founding fathers established our great nation on the principles of the Bible, should we not assure these principles continue, defended, and maintained by us Christians at all cost? Do we not have a mandate to assure our government remains true to the Constitution and laws that have governed our land for hundreds of years? Do we not owe it to future generations to monitor it with eagle eyes?
Now more than ever the god of this world, Satan, is trying to destroy everything that is holy. Human life has lost its sanctity as seen by the millions of babies slaughtered yearly in our nation. What do you suppose would be the reaction of our founders?
Homosexuality has been embraced and glorified in the face of Almighty God who once destroyed two cities for its perverted sexual orgies. Brimstone and sulfur was rained upon Sodom and Gomorrah til the cities and surrounding areas were annihilated. But now our government welcomes it with open arms. They parade this wickedness up and down the streets carrying flags and banners in defiance to the Lord.
Yet I have to say, our government is not the primary fault. The fault lies in the Church who was placed here to cry out against evil in high places. The Church was to be salt and light to the darkness that is covering our land. Rather, the Church has hidden her head in the sand and let Satan’s armies invade Washington and gradually take over. Many politicians have opened the flood gates of demonic sewage into what our founding fathers wrote against.
Ladies and Gentlemen, we the people are America. The government works for us (and profits enormously.) The Church is the highest office in the land, not the government. It is our duty to eliminate evil and wickedness, which is destroying what our former generations built. It is the duty of the Church to clean up and sanitize our nation so that our children and grandchildren will inherit something far better than what we see going on today.
But you say the Lord is coming to take us home. Yes, you very well may be right, but does that give the Church the right to give in and let the Devil have full reigns? I see no where in Gods Word to roll over and play dead! Although the Scriptures are being fulfilled before Our eyes, the fact remains we don’t know the day or hour of His coming’. Let us not be like many cults before us, sell all our possessions, climb a tall mountain, and waste time waiting. Christ will let us know when He is ready. There are too many souls to be saved, too many lives to rescue, and spiritual warfares to be fought.
If godly men and women fail to act, there will soon be another Sodom and Gomorrah to leave our offspring because God isn’t going to allow sin to go unchecked. Even now the judgement of God is upon our nation with this Coronavirus plague. Many people are dying. Yet the Lord says,
“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
⁃ 2 Chronicles 7;14
God is always calling His Church to do what it was formed to do.
Notice the Lord didn’t mention the lost people or our government in the verse above, He clearly said “my people”. Our country is corrupted and the source of much of this corruption flows from corrupt politicians hired by ‘we the people’! If they don’t do their job, it’s time to find ones that will.
If we want true change the Church must rise against corruption with the power of God and Christ as our King. We must pray and act. We must vote out those who are pushing abortion, homosexuality, open borders allowing drugs and sex trafficking. We must vote, not according to a party, but according to the principles found in the Good Book. The reason we are in such a mess now is because we have allowed atheist, philosophers, politicians, and the ungodly to triumph over the Church of the living God. It’s time to stand and put on our armor and march on evil as never before. ”Evil triumphs when good men do nothing” and the Church has a lot of experience doing nothing.
One way to cause change is to do our civic duty and get out and vote. We are one election away from loosing our country that God entrusted to us as a temporary home. Much of our Constitution, and the Christian values we have held so dear will give way to socialism and communism, and the wickedness in our government will increase ten fold.
This voting season make a list of candidates and what they believe. Then compare each one to what the Bible says. Also compare the values of each party with the Bible. Are they for truth and righteousness, or their own perverse ideologies. Let the Word of God be your guide. It will never lead you wrong.
Should Christians and their leaders get involved with politics? The Bible and common sense should answer that. We are the Church of the living God! The Lord’s representatives. Do you not know that Christians will govern the world one day during the reign of Christ? That’s when we will have a just governing system.
But in the mean time, pray earnestly and vote biblically. If all of Gods children will do that, the will of the Lord for our nation will survive. God is carrying out His perfect plans through us, the true Church. Let’s not let Him down. May God bless His people in the rough days ahead.
With love and concern until we move on to our permanent home in Heaven and Jesus Christ rules in righteousness.
