WISDOM OF PROVERBS 29:3
By Pastor Greg Hooker
“A man's pride shall bring him low: but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit.”
One of the greatest virtues of Gods children is humility. Sadly, however, the attitudes of many Christians are alarmingly void of humility in their lives. And when this positive virtue is absent, it creates a vacuum in which the negative will fill that void with the opposite, which is pride.
What a tragedy to see this happen in the life of a believer. I personally believe pride is one, if not the greatest of sins. Now why do I say that? If we go back before the creational acts of God, we find that the Lords top Angelica being was “lifted up with pride” resulting in the catastrophic event that caused one third of the Angels in Heaven to revolt against God their Creator. Who was it that pride was conceived in - Lucifer. He was the mightiest creature God had ever created, perfect in all his ways ....... until pride and iniquity was birthed in his heart.
What a sad day in Heaven when one third of the Lords Angelic host were lied to and duped into a fruitless rebellion against the Almighty by Lucifer, later to be called Satan, the father of lies and deceit. The Bible says that Lucifer was “cast down” along with those who joined in his attempt. The Apostle Peter said this,
“Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time.” (1 Peter 5:6)
Pride will take you places you don’t want to go, but humility will exalt you to the place of Gods abundant blessings. While the fate of Satan is sealed, we have the ability to humble ourselves before God because of the Living Christ who paid for our sins that we could overcome the pride of life and be lifted through the virtue of humility! Praise be to the Savior!
